Each person is treated according to their needs and abilities.
On the first visit, there is an evaluation that includes a discussion to discuss symptoms and reasons of consult. Then there is a clinical exam to evaluate the potential dysfunctions of the pelvic floor and other structures related to the symptoms described.
It is very important for me to explain my findings: what I see, what I palpate and to explain the links with the symptoms and the anatomy, to discuss my hypothesis so that there is a good comprehension of what is done and that the person feels at ease. Then I propose a treatment plan to the person.
Treatments are personalized and can include exercises to normalize, strengthen, stretch, and relax the pelvic floor according to what was found during the evaluation. Exercises are taught and practiced in the clinic, and some exercises are given to practice at home. Readjustment of posture, pelvis, abdominals, respiration are treated as needed. Different advices and recommendations can be suggested, or modifications of certain habits that could improve symptoms. On certain occasions, I use pessaries for pelvic organ prolapse as a complement to the treatment.
I work in collaboration with family doctors, gynecologist, urologist, sex therapists, psychologist, physiotherapists, nurse practitioners.
To be treated in pelvic floor physiotherapy, you do not need a medical prescription unless your insurance requests one. Call me to take an appointment, I will tell you if this approach can help you.
